01 · Challenge

Information needs to be understandable and available at any time.

Busy transport locations receive the same standard questions every day, from wayfinding to fare zones and ticket types. International travellers add different languages to the challenge. SEMMI was conceived to provide accessible information through spoken dialogue and give service staff more time for complex advice.

02 · Solution

Conversational AI gains a visible counterpart.

SEMMI stands for “Socio-Empathetic Human-Machine Interaction”. The speech-based HMI system combines conversational AI with a digital avatar and can respond to frequent questions around the clock at stationary information points.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the technology has been used in pilot projects at railway stations, airports, underground stations and trade fairs.

03 · Charamel's role

3D expertise for interactive avatar characters.

In cooperation with the 3D specialists at Charamel GmbH, DB Systel provides avatar characters for modern digital-signage solutions. Charamel focuses on the visual and interactive design of digital characters for communication between people and machines.
