First impressions are hard to rehearse.
Job interviews are a major challenge — especially for young applicants, for whom this unfamiliar situation could previously only be practised inadequately. Virtual empathetic training systems create an opportunity to rehearse interview situations and to assess one's own behaviour more accurately.
Reading social signals in real time.
EmpaT was the first project to couple real-time analysis of social signals with a real-time emotional user model, so that the behaviour of an interactive avatar adapts to the socio-emotional situation of the person practising. Advanced sensors capture gaze, eye, hand and body movements.
Real-time emotion simulation and behaviour models integrate findings from psychology, cognitive science and artificial intelligence. An ethics advisory board accompanied the project on ethical, social and legal questions.
