Avatars are becoming more and more versatile in their fields of application and their aim is to relieve people of their workload. This is also the case at Lübeck University Hospital, where an avatar now sits at the patient admissions desk and records health insurance data, as well as conducting an initial preliminary interview. The Avatar also has an answer to general questions about the next toilet or cafeteria. The digital employee named “Hospital Genius" was developed by IBM together with employees of the hospital and is currently in service for the test phase; experience so far has been positive. In the course of the year, the Federal Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians would like to test the software in various emergency practices and hospitals and use the virtual assistants to initiate digitization and thus create relief at the operational focal points.
